We are seeking a passionate Medical Assistant to work within Philadelphia FIGHT's Y-HEP Adolescent and Young Adult Health Center. The Y-HEP clinic services adolescents and young adults (ages 13-26), providing access to comprehensive primary care, sexual and reproductive health services, integrated behavioral health, PrEP, and other relevant social services. The patients and staff at Philadelphia FIGHT are diverse, representing a broad spectrum of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, HIV status, and physical ability. As such it is imperative that candidates demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of various populations.
The ideal candidate is professional, innovative, emotionally intelligent, intellectually curious, hard-working, and reliable, computer savvy and open to new ideas. This person will take a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach to dealing with families.
About the Role:
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday (9:00 - 5:00PM). May occasionally require early mornings or extended evening hours as needed.

- FSLA status is non-exempt with hourly rate of $22 per hour

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant Certification.
- Must possess CPR/Basic Life Support/AED certification for adults and children within sixty days of hire.
- 3+ years of related experience, experience as a Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist strongly preferred.
- General knowledge of science, medicine, and medical clinic workflows.
- Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, e-mail, time sheet management, reporting, internet research, etc. using relevant software such as Electronic Medical Records, HRIS and Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and excellent customer service.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural competency and understanding of a trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach to health care.
- Ability to remain organized.
- Must be able to exercise good judgment and identify when to escalate issues as appropriate.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices such as OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and funding body regulations.
- Strong skillsets in interpersonal relationships and teamwork, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy and problem solving.
- Discretion, initiative, and ability to maintain HIPAA compliance.
- If stationed in the pediatric unit, knowledgeable of Vaccine for Children standards, policies, and procedures required.
Responsibilities include:
- Greets and escorts patients to the appropriate exam rooms.
- Conducts vital checks including blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry, height and weight.
- Upon request from providers and/or nurses, completes labs, EKGs, urine dips and pregnancy checks, random blood glucose checks, rapid A1C testing, rapid urine drug screens, etc. as required; conducts Clinical Decision Support System portion of provider visit if requested or if time allows.
- Administers injections and vaccinations in compliance with vaccine administration policies and procedures; completes vaccine abstraction on all patients needing updated vaccine records in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Provides basic wound care.
- Documents all activities related to patient care appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record and within the established timeframe set forth by FIGHT policy.
- Acts as a chaperone for sensitive exams (i.e., Nexplanon placement, genital exams, pap smears).
- Ensure exam rooms and/or nursing triage rooms are orderly and fully stocked with basic first aid items, specimen collection items and bags, chucks, exam table paper, gowns, wound care kits, oxygen supplies, nebulizer supplies, Narcan, syringes and needles; prepares EKG machines with paper and electrodes.
- Maintains and cleans medical laboratory equipment and exam rooms (e.g., medical beds, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers) in collaboration with the other medical assistants; ensures temperature of refrigerators are within acceptable range.
- Builds and maintains working relationship with consultants, including Stericycle and LabCorp to ensure proper waste disposal and specimen collection and supply stock.
- Complete daily Chart Prep, Vaccination Abstraction, and Inventory Counts.
- Monitors all assigned Teams chats and responds when needed in a timely manner.
- Notifies Practice Managers of incidents and/or patient complaints.
- Collects and processes blood samples from patients, which may include delivering specimens to pick up locations; coordinates care for patients needing lab visits and at off-site labs.
- If stationed in the pediatric unit, assists providers with exam room procedures (ear irrigation, suture/staple removals, etc.)
- Provides backup coverage to other clinics as needed.
- Act as a Patient Educator for services/procedures that patients will receive in office.
- Tracks and facilitates legal and regulatory compliance for assigned clinic (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, informed consent).
- Provide assessment of clinical workflows and equipment.
- Depending on clinic and patient flow, may be responsible for check-in duties.
- Depending on clinic, may be responsible for managing a waiting list of guests within a homeless drop-in center ensuring all patients are being processed appropriately.
- Abides by all compliance standards including but not limited to completing training and attending all required staff meetings, supervision meetings and/or daily huddles.
- Upholds and ensures compliance and attention to all FIGHT policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
- Other duties as assigned to fulfill FIGHT's mission.
